My grandson wants me to help him clean his cymbals on his drum set. Does any one know the process, so I don't damage them?

Just found an excellent site instructables.com/id/Cleaning-Drum-Cymbals/ According to them, lemon juice will do it, but for the exact technique, go to the site.
Call a music store and ask them. They usually love explaining the instruments and giving out information. You can also contact the band director at your local school.
