When hand sewing, whether a button or whatever, take the thread and run through a bar of soap. It won't tangle and makes the thread stronger

Another cool idea is to sew with dental floss, but works best with small areas like buttons. Thanks for the tip. My gramma used to do this all the time.
Another thing that works is to run the thread tightly over a candle stub. Easy to keep one in your sewing kit.
