Yummy every day or holiday dish.
Cook yams in water to cover in saucepan until almost tender. Peel and slice. Drain and slice chestnuts. Peel, core and slice apples. Layer half the apples, yams, chestnuts and brown sugar in buttered 3 qt. casserole. Dot generously with butter. Repeat layers. Pour cider vinegar over top. Bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hour.
