Use nail polish thinner. As a last resort, use nail polish remover. Use a medicine dropper to put in a few drops, then shake and test the consistency. Add more if it's still too thick.

This is also called acetone.

I used Cutex nail polish remover, and it dissolved the sponge applicator!
