Egyptian Feast?

My daughter is having an "Egyptian Feast" in her gifted class on Friday. Her teacher asked me to decorate the tables for the food. Does anyone have any suggestions what I can do on a LIMITED budget? Also, I need to include some Egyptian food items; any ideas on that too? Thanks!

Tabouli, BabaGhanou, Hommous, mid-Eastern bread to use as the scoopers for the tabouli, etc. Also, something easy is any sort of lentil dish, with rice. Pickled turnips are a good condiment that would be easy to make(at home simply cut the turnips into hunks and place in pickling jar with pickles. Dessert might be rice pudding, always good or dates wrapped in conf. sugar.

Hummus

2 cans chick peas, drained of most of its liquid
1/3 cup lemon juice

3 large cloves garlic, peeled
Salt and freshly ground pepper
1/4 teaspoon paprika
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

In a food processor, add the chickpeas and a third of the liquid, lemon juice, and garlic and puree. Season with salt and pepper. Serve in a small bowl, sprinkle with the paprika and drizzle with olive oil.

Hummus is the peanut butter of the Middle East. It can be served just on its own over simply toasted points of pita bread or spread on just about anything.

As for table clothes.....anything colorful will do, especially if it has perhaps a touch of gold to it or shiny thread, flowers small consistant patterns...can pull the table cloth off.....Fresh flowers on the table is not bad idea....dishes that have several places for various dips to go in....large round platters to hold finger foods. I do not know how far you need to go with the decorations or if it is just the table cloth. Or intricate tapestry in bright colors. And actyually you could get away with just a white sheet......why not?
