Tabasco or tea tree oil
Editor's Note: Because of the concerns that have been addressed about this suggestion, we have reviewed the health concerns with these products.
Tea tree oil is considered very toxic at full strength and should not be used. Here is a link with more information.

Tabasco, however is considered safe for cats in small quantities. If they are actually eating quantities of it, it can be unhealthy because of the high sodium content. This link discusses tabasco and other substances to use as a deterrent.

Its cruel to use Tabasco for a suckling kitten separated from mom and trying to suckle! I don't even like cats! Im not an animal rights person but I do respect the rights of all living being and against abuse. I am a lactation consultant for human babies and it would be abuse to do that! Kittens suckling is a natural survival instinct and they need comfort.
Is it a kitten? If so, he/she will outgrow it.
Some a cats will do that for their entire life. The main reason they do that is because they were taken away from their mama too soon so instead of trying to get your fur baby to stop doing it just accept it as a gift that he/she considers you to be it's mama and you give him/her comfort. :-)
As for the advice shirlgrif gave I feel this must be written in all caps:
PLEASE DO NOT BE CRUEL TO ANY ANIMAL BY PUTTING TABASCO IN ITS MOUTH AND TEA TREE OIL IS POISONOUS TO BOTH CATS AND DOGS!
Anyone whose conscience would permit them to suggest such solutions should not have a kitten. Its a baby animal for crying out loud.
Mine is doing it, and it drives me nuts after a while, but I know she needs the mommy-style comfort.
Have a heart.
OMG! Are you kidding me! Tabasco or tree oil. I hope you did not give this to your cat, how cruel is that! I don't like to sound rude but I think you need to learn more about caring for your cat.
I have multiple cats. One who was a rescue as a tiny kitten is now aged 4 years. He cleaved to me from the beginning. He began sucking on my ear lobe back then and still does it. I'm not a disciplinarian. He only sucks on my ear for a couple of minutes as he drifts off to sleep in my arms. I'm not bitten or harmed. I am not ashamed or sorry, either.
I also have a kitten who sucks on my earlobe! Has to be the left one! Lol! She was just past 5 weeks old when I got her so I assume she wasn't quite ready to leave her momma.
Just because cats were not raised by a mom does not make them suck as many suck who were even nursed to 8 wks or more.
Clicker training is excellent for working with these behaviors.
I think if you know when the cat is likely to suck you could avoid it by wearing ear muffs/scarf/hat. After a while the habit may be broken. Try redirecting the suck before it starts - have some catnip nearby or a toy.
If not, try speaking with an animal communicator (www.animaltalk.net for a list).
