Homemade Spaghetti Sauce In A Pinch

After starting the pasta, I realized I didn't have any seasoning packets or jars of sauce, so I decided to try making one of my own. We liked it so well I decided to share it.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 - 2 lb. hamburger
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 Tbsp. minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp. Italian Seasoning, at least that much
  • 1 Tbsp. taco seasoning
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1/4 tsp. red pepper
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 1 can water
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Directions:

Start browning the hamburger in a medium skillet while sauteing the onion and garlic in a little bit of butter or olive oil. Add to the browned hamburger when the hamburger is done.

Add the last seven ingredients after the hamburger is browned and you have added the onion and garlic. Stir well and simmer until it cooks down some. Cover and finish cooking about 15 minutes.

I do not buy processed spaghetti sauce, nor do I make it with processed ingredients such as canned soups and packaged mixes. If you are interested in making your own without processed ingredients do this:

1 pound ground beef
1 chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped green pepper
3 gloves garlic or one tablespoon garlic powder
salt
pepper
1 can chopped tomatoes
1 can tomato paste (not sauce) with added water
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon mustard

Canned sauce and mixes were not invented until the seventies. Before that everyone made their own sauce. Read the label on the powdered mixes and you will see all kinds of MSG, preservatives, etc. Do we really want to eat that? Natural is best.
