Every summer we pick u-pick berries at a local farm. Along with making jam and syrup, I mash up some of the berries and freeze them in ice cube trays. The berry cubes are the perfect size to toss in with some plain yogurt (it defrosts in time for lunch), or my favorite, putting in with the water for my oatmeal. Frozen berries, cinnamon, and a little brown sugar makes oatmeal taste just like a nice fresh fruit crisp - yum! It's especially tasty in the winter.
This year I also made up and froze a little extra homemade apple pie filling when I made my pies. A cube of apple pie filling in your oatmeal tastes far superior to the dehydrated instant stuff.
