We are trying to design our junior prom. We chose Parisian as our theme but are not sure about which era would be best. Can any one suggest an era that is romantic but not too feminine?

When I was in high school the theme for our junior-senior banquet and prom was Paris. In order to save money all we bought that was special was napkins and nut cups with the Eiffel Tower on them. Other than that we spent lots of time making flowers to decorate for the dance. I can't remember exactly how we did the flowers, but they were made out of facial tissues.
At that time one company made boxes of mixed colors, there would be a layer of pink, a layer of blue, and a layer of yellow. then when we got ready to decorate the hall, one of the girls had her parents bring in a wood arch with a small fence on each side. We set that up right in side the door and decorated that with flowers.
As the decorating went on we decided we didn't have enough flowers so we went and asked one of my aunts if we could have some of the many apple blossoms that were blooming in her back yard and we ended up using them on the wood arch, it made a nice fragrance as we entered the hall.
I realize back in the fifties people did things a lot less fancy than they do now. For the banquet the mothers of the Junior class cooked the meal. The banquet was held in the fellowship hall of a church that was across the street from where the dance was held.
We also wore our formals for the prom that year and the following year - no matter how well to do the parents were. The boys also wore plain suits (no tuxes).
