Our rented house has all plain, smooth, unpainted white plaster walls. It still looks good but over the years the plaster has dulled a bit, and doesn't look so fresh and white. Is there a safe way to clean plaster and bring back the whiteness? We can't paint or wallpaper -- remember it's a rental and this is the way the landlord wants it kept. If anyone knows of any tested and true ways to clean it, I'd be so glad to hear them!

That doesn't even make any sense. Plaster or sheetrock must be sealed because of water/humidity will ruin. Some new paints today are "Green Seal" and almost no VOC, and will protect the walls. Just pick a similar color of Green Seal approved brand and paint it
