Could anyone please tell me if there is any way I could minimize the scent of the fabric softener after the clothes have dried? It seems too strong and sometimes isn't that flattering anymore, especially when the dress is to be worn at a special event. Thanks.

Stop using the fabric softener and start using vinegar instead. If you want a smell maybe dilute the softener with water or use less. But vinegar is the way to go
Throw the dress into the dryer by itself and don't use a dryer sheet.
I use balled up aluminum foil, about three balls an inch or so in diameter. Works great with no smell and does the same thing the dryer sheets do.
I mix fabric softener and water 50/50. Less smell, more softener.
I always buy unscented fabric softener sheets. They soften but don't smell!
Fabric softener is dangerous and chemicals you don't really want on you, your most sensitive parts, or your children. Use vinegar in place of it. It saves money, the environment, leaves no smell but does the job perfectly.
