Original Toll House Cookies

• 2 1/4 cups sifted flour
• 1 tsp. soda
• 1 tsp. salt
• 1 cup softened butter or shortening
• 3/4 cup sugar
• 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
• 1 tsp. vanilla
• 1/2 tsp. water
• 2 eggs
• 1 package semi-sweet real chocolate morsels
• 1 cup chopped nuts (opt.)

Directions

Sift together flour, baking soda and salt; set aside. Combine butter or shortening, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla and water; beat until creamy. Beat in eggs. Add flour mixture and mix well. Stir in chocolate morsels and nuts.. Drop by well-rounded half-teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees F for 10-12 minutes. Makes about 100 cookies. (2 inches in diameter)
