Peel and core apples and chop into large chunks. Place in saucepan and cover almost completely with water. Cover pan. bring to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes or until apples are tender, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and spoon out as much water as possible. Add red hots and sugar and stir until dissolved. Cover and refrigerate.
