I apologize for not being here daily, but I've been quite ill with Thrush in my throat and now I'm trying to get rid of it by eating only vegetables, salads without sugar in the dressing, High protein, (which I think is beef), and fresh fruit. I'm told that I can eat nothing with flour and/or sugar in it because this feeds the thrush.
I've also been advised to rinse my mouth and throat with vinegar in water, or salt and water. and once I've licked this problem, I'll toss my toothbrush even though it's new. Don't want to take the chance of the germs being on the brush. If anyone has any other suggestions of how to treat this thing, I'd dearly love to have them. I have days when I can barely walk any great distance because of losing the strength and stamina needed. I also have days when I just don't feel up to being on the computer, so I hope y'all will be patient with me for the time being until I am feeling like a human being again.
Update:
To all who was kind enough to submit suggestions for Thrush, I heartily thank you. Now I have some news about this illness and something else too. Would you believe that I never had Thrush?
The ENT so called specialist prescribed medication and never followed up with another visit to see if the medication had cleared the problem. I was STILL having problems breathing and went to my doctor. I told him I would not return to the specialist as I had no faith in him. My doctor sent me to a pulmonary specialist for an x-ray of my lungs and after the x-ray was taken I had horrible chest pains which had several doctors administering to me and then getting me directly into the hospital. I had pneumonia, not Thrush. After examining the c-scan and x-ray that was taken, it was also discovered that I had a spot on my lung that was of concern. It is small and I'll begin the treatments beginning May 7. First comes the full body scan to spot any hot spots IF there are any. Then the treatments will be everyday for 6 weeks, and I'm hoping this puts the nasty C in remission. I can only say that I'm thankful it was pneumonia. Otherwise this thing would have never been discovered until too late.
I'm home from the hospital and quite weak, but getting a bit stronger as each day passes. Maybe tomorrow I'll skip rope. {laughing}....I'll try to submit a recipe as I feel up to sitting at this 'puter. Again, I thank each and everyone who gave me suggestions for curing the Thrush. Wish you had the cure for pneumonia and the big C. {LOL} Actually at this time, it's a little C, thank goodness. God is good!!!

I was going to suggest something like yogurt/acidophilus or tea tree oil. Maybe cut down on the fruit too? Thrush is a form of a yeast infection isn't it? They have you cut down on fruit for that.
This article has some suggestions:
DO NOT EAT TEA TREE OIL! ITS POISON AND FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY! Thrush is an overgrown of yeast in the mouth due to an imbalance of bacteria. Common causes of Thrush are: Oral antibiotics, immune deficiency diseases, and possibly over cleaning your mouth. Eat Yogurt and see a doctor and stay on your meds. Salt water and vinegar and water wont do much. Orange Juice, orange juice, orange juice!
I did not mean to EAT the tea tree oil. Dilute it and use it as a mouthwash/rinse.

79. Thrush: Add (?) drops of tea tree oil to 1 cup of warm water, gargle 2-3 times a day.
When my babies had thrush- I would put gentian violet on a q-tip and coat the inside of their mouth w/ it. I purchased it at wal-mart. It's in the pharmacy and it's in a small 1 0z dark brown bottle. It is purple and it will stain so be sure you don't get it on anything you intend to wear again. I only had to do this a couple of times and it got rid of it! It's an anti-infective first- aid antiseptic. It says not to swallow, but my grandmother used it and she had 9 kids, so iIm pretty sure she knew what she was talking about. Just don't swallow the bottle! Just dip the q-tip in the bottle and coat your throat w/ it. Hope you feel better!
I'd go to the doc and get a prescription and treat it that way. Just my 2 cents. The meds kick in really quick and you'll feel much better real soon.
Plain yogurt & more plain yogurt & more plain yogurt. Make SURE it has live cultures! This is how we've always gotten rid of yeast infections. The only difference is you have the thrush (or yeast infection) "up there" & not "down there". I also got a case of thrush after a coarse of strong antibiotics after a C-section. (It's very painful!) Another thing that will help for sure is to go to a health food store & buy LIQUID acidophilus. It should be in the cooler in a brown glass bottle. They have plain or strawberry flavor (tasty) & it's around $6.
Drink a shot-glass 3 or 4 times a day! Also before you drink it down, gargle with it. You won't be sorry! Make sure to buy the live, liquid acidophilus cultures, & not the powered capsule or pill form. (unless you can't find the liquid) because the liquid is much better.
Also, if you don't mind a purple mouth. I've heard great things about the Gentian Violet. Ask the Pharmacist for it. You may have to go to several pharmacies before you find it. What you do is paint it on with a new paintbrush after drying your tongue on a paper towel. Also paint it a around the inside of your mouth.
A good quality Vitamin C would also help. In the mean time, drink ice water to relieve the discomfort. Also, if a doctor prescribes a banana flavored medicine to get rid of the thrush (like they did me) be sure to keep eating plain yogurt in between doses of the medicine. If you can't stand plain yogurt, then buy milk that comes with acidophilus in it (it cost a bit more than regular milk but it's worth it).
You can also put a bit of cinnamon in the plain yogurt & add about a teaspoon of raisins then let it sit overnight, then stir. The raisins will sweeten the yogurt. Don't worry about the tiny bit of sugar in the raisins, because the plain yogurt will do more good than the raisins do harm. Plain yogurt can also be used just like sour cream. You can drop a dollop of it on your veggies or in soup. But make sure the soup isn't very hot or it will kill the good bacteria in the yogurt. Plain yogurt can also be used in place of mayonnaise on sandwiches or in most recipes.
I have to admit, that I kept on eating & drinking regularly (sugar & all) when I had thrush, I got rid of it with that banana flavored medicine the doctor prescribed for me to swish around my mouth. It was gone in less than a week.
After an cancer operation I delveloped so I called my doc and he sent a prescription to the pharmacy for one pill. I took the one pill and thrush was gone. I don't think home remedies as posted will work.
To treat thrush in adults, at first you will probably use medicine that goes directly on the white patches, such as a liquid or a lozenge. If these medicines don't work, your doctor may prescribe an antifungal pill.
You can look up thrush on the internet.
Eat yogurt several times a day and it I'll clear it up. I had the same problem. God Bless!
Everyone said I was likely to get thrush and mouth sores during chemo, but I never did, possibly because of a tip I saw someplace. I always brushed my teeth and tongue with baking soda that was wet down with a few spritzes of Hydrogen Peroxide. (*I put the peroxide in a small clean spray bottle, and would spray it over about a teaspoon of baking soda in my hand, then dip my toothbrush into it. You can just pour it in, but the spray bottle kept me from splashing out too much.) After brushing, I'd rinse my toothbrush with water and spray it with a few more spritzes of hydrogen peroxide as well, leaving it in the brush and letting it air dry. This got me through several months of chemo without any mouth or throat problems, and my toothbrush always looked sparking clean. Not sure if it would help, but it probably wouldn't hurt, and might keep your toothbrush from harboring any germs. Hope you feel better soon!
See a nutritionist and get something for yeast, (Caprystatin is a good one) that will take care of the thrush and the rest of the yeast in your body. Thrush is yeast. Dotty
I ended up having to go to the dentist, and he gave me a prescription for the lozenges that you sucked on and let them dissolve. They worked great and no more thrush. Deb
Sorry, Connie, I don't have any suggestions to help. Just wanted to say I hope you feel better soon. I do miss your threads!

You may think this sounds strange but it works. For babies or adults. Nursing mothers can catch the thrush if breast feeding a baby with the thrust. It is yeast that causes this, but it can be hard to get rid of. Sure fire cure is to find a person who has not ever met or seen their blood dad. Once you have this person they just need to blow into the mouth once and the thrush disappears!
Go to the drug store and buy Gentian Violet It's purple and I used it on 5 kids, they all had thrush at the same time. It got rid of the thrush in no time and I know they had it deep in their throats, so it went down quite a ways. The Gentian Violet was used by my Grandmother for all her kids. It really works.
I had thrush in my throat once and it was so far back in my throat that the doctor couldn't see it. It was the most painful sore throat that I have ever had. I had to do some research and diagnose myself. I had been on a cortisone inhaler and also had been on an antibiotic. There was a warning on the paper that came with the inhaler that said that when you were on a combination of these medicines that this could happen. I went to my family doctor and told him what was wrong. I'm not sure if he believed me, but he told me to use prescription lozenges. He said that if that was what was wrong, it would heal me. He said that if that wasn't what was wrong, the lozenges wouldn't hurt me. I was totally better in two days!
My 17 year old daughter fought this for over a year (because of her asthma inhaler). She now eats a lot of yogurt, plus takes acidopholis every day (a more natural remedy). She was also put on Diflucan(sp?) many times. I would try an antibiotic plus the acidopholis. Good luck -- it's tough stuff to get rid of!
IMPORTANT: Thrush can become systemic and since you are feeling like you are loosing strength and stamina, I would go back/to the doctor. They have medication they can prescribe to take care of this yeast infection and if it has gone systemic you definitely need a prescription to get rid of it.
Your first thing should be find out WHY you have the yeast infection. Stay away from sugar, a lot of fruit, beer and bread with yeast in.
Go to the Dr and get checked out for diabetes, if the Dr has not done this yet.
Hi Connie, I hope you get to read down this far. Have you called your Doctor? He can give you medication. I have had thrush before I was so surprised a adult could get it. I almost fell off the table when the Doctor told me I had it. I guess we aren't getting older were getting younger.
At least that is the way it would seem anymore,I would like to know who coined the phrase your not getting older your getting better? We would really have a difference of opinion. One thing I have noticed is my definite lack of spelling correctly lately. I was on a antibiotic that caused the problem.I am also on immune suppressing drug's and so I come up with all kinds of crazy things. It's a pain I know, but I hope you are feeling better as I write this. Take care call your Doctor and hurry up and feel better so you can write more recipes! Darlene
Dear Connie. Have enjoyed your many recipes and food tips. Wishing you good health and brighter days ahead. Hang in there.

God works in mysterious ways. Glad its not thrush. Sorry it's pneumonia and little c. but you're on a great recovery. God bless you. Take care. We all miss you.
Years ago I had thrush as a adult after a bout of severe asthma where I was given large doses of prednisone. The prednisone is what caused the thrush. I was given a liquid oral medicine that I swished in my throat If think it was 2 times a day and then swallowed it after swishing. I am sorry I do not remember the name, but your doctor should know of it, or a pulmonary doctor would.. I also suggest asking the pharmacist if he can help you with the name of this medicine which helped with the thrush. Good luck and God Bless you.
God is good Connie. He will take care of you. remember you are in the shadow of His wing--comforting
Best wishes to you for a speedy recovery and good health. Good thing you went back to your Doctor! Hopefully this will remind us all to be vigilant about our health and speak up to the doctors. They are sometimes wrong and it is good to remember that.
