My New Kitten Has Fleas?

I just got a new kitten and have found a dozen or so fleas on her in the last 5 days, she has a lot of flea excrement on her, but no eggs or larvae. Is bathing her and treating the floors and bedding enough to make sure this doesn't become a problem?

I saw a video on u tube about fleas. Use lavender and tea tree oil. Put about six drops of each in a couple of cups of water. Put in spray bottle and after you have bathed the kitten, dry him/her off and spray this concoction on the kitten. It wont hurt the animal and he will be rid of the fleas. And, he will smell good! The tea tree oil is an antiseptic from what I am told, a very good product. Be careful not to get the mix into the kittens eyes! Good luck!

Back when our children were small, a kitten took up at our house and it was wrapped up with fleas. We got some flea shampoo and bathed him and picked all the fleas off. That was one happy kitten when we got him cleaned up.

You can use Dawn Liquid Dish Detergent as a shampoo for the kitten; suds the kitty real good and leave on for a minute before rinsing. If you have a sprayer rinse the fur backwards and watch fleas make their final exit.

You can buy Frontline Top Spot for kittens through this link cheaper than buying through a vet or pet store so your kitten is flea free for life safely and inexpensively. This is who I buy from for my cockers.

The blue dawn dish detergent is a good idea like they said. It's not made for every time use, but to give the little one a bath to get rid of the flees. I think it could work great. Poor little thing!

Please don't use lavender oil or tea tree oil on cats! It is toxic whether applied topically or if they ingest it! Both oils can cause loss of muscular coordination, shaking and tremors and harm the liver among other problems. I'll venture to bet that either oil could be deadly to a small kitten.

If there is flea poopy there are are indeed eggs and larvae so be sure to do a thorough home cleaning/vacuuming including your own bedding and under furniture cushions. What I've done in the past is thoroughly clean the bathroom first, get the tub water ready, bathe the infected cat and then leave the little fella in the bathroom with food, water, litter box and large freshly laundered towel for a bed until all the rest of the home has been cleaned. Maybe even a radio with soothing music too. ;-)

At least a year old. If your kitten has fleas, washing it in Dawn dishwashing detergent usually kills them. Be careful not to get it in eyes, nose, mouth, and ears. Bathe the kitten gently and thoroughly once a week until the fleas are gone. You also have to wash all kitten bedding and vacuum your home thoroughly every day until the fleas are gone.

Absolutely no poisons. Flea collars and flea poisons go straight to the liver and kidneys. Dry 20 mule team borax for the house. 2 cups for average room sifted into carpet, the stuffed chairs and cat beds. leave for two weeks before vacuuming. eggs, larvae and adults life cycle complete in 2 weeks. No flea soap. Never any flea collars.

Build immune system with good diet. No corn wheat or soy. No grocery store animal foods. Specialty store, co-op, farm supply has foods like EVO or California naturals. Even Diamond food is so much healthier if finances are an issue. Vaccines ruin the immune system. Please study anti- vaccine sites. vaclib.org is a good one. If your kitty enjoys the yard, please also use no poisons. cedercide granules (online) spread into yard is safe and economical. Food grade diatomacious earth is given often over food for intestinal worms.

Tapeworms often come from pets swallowing fleas. Good idea to rid fleas from everywhere. One makes me bonkers, i can only imagine what a small army of fleas does to a pet. Bathe in dawn dish soap or even bar soap. Kitty much happier with no bugs. Cuddle better now and forevermore.

Please, please do NOT use a flea collar! Kittens have to be at least 2-3 months old before you can use Advantage. I feel it is the safest, but read the labels online before making a choice.

You have to be so careful with a baby, do your homework online and you will find a solution. Good luck. The Pet Nanny
