Like most households we have quite a few remotes. One for each of 3 TVs, one for each of 3 DVD players, one for a fan, one for each of 2 A/Cs, one for a space heater, plus a few more I'm sure but can't think of right now. Here's my way of keeping them organized and not lost when not in use.
The space heater is obviously not being used in August. So the remote is in a plastic bag (batteries removed) and taped to the heater. In the winter I'll do the same thing with the remotes to the fan and the A/C units.
In the summer the A/Cs and the fan are being used, so I keep a coffee cup on the table next to the most used chair (recliner here). In it are some pens and pencils, a small ruler, and a few other small things that come in handy. I also keep the remote to the A/C in that cup. For the bedroom A/C and fan, I have those two remotes velcroed together back-to-back. They stay on a shelf of my night stand where they are easily reached.
And for the TV and DVD player remotes, each pair is also velcroed together back-to-back. And each is kept on a table (or night stand in the bedrooms) next to the most used chair.
When putting 2 remotes together, I use velcro instead of tape or glue because it's easier to separate them to replace batteries. Also when putting them away for the season, I always remove the batteries first.
