To keep my 8.5 x 11 cardstock organized by color I use a vertical cardboard magazine holder that I have covered with decorative paper to look pretty in my craft room. The trick is to be sure the holder is full, otherwise the paper will slump and not be straight, especially the thinner papers. If my holder is not full, I use some pieces from a corrugated cardboard box to make sure my paper is upright in the holder. It will hold about 4-5 inches of paper.
My supply of 12 x 12 papers is more limited and I keep them in a clear plastic craft keeper that is 12x12 and expands to about 1.5 - 2.0 inches deep. To keep the small squares of cardstock organized, I use a plastic shoe box without the lid. For pages I tear from magazines, I use hanging files in a file cabinet and for the very small strips of paper, I store those in a small accordion file. This sounds like a lot of storage, but it keeps each kind of paper in its place by color. It seems to work for me when I make greeting cards for family and friends.
