For ground beef, substitute 3/4 lb for any recipe calling for 1 lb. It adds up to savings over time and no one will miss it. Add extra healthy veggies like onions, mushrooms, etc.

You can even stretch ground beef even farther if you mix 1/2 low fat ground beef with 1 can fat free refried beans. This is a nice way to keep protein up in the meal while adding fiber and cutting the calories.
I will have to try adding the refried beans! My mom always stretched the beef by making up hamburger patties, adding instant oatmeal and spices, but changing the spices from parsley with just salt and pepper, to taco seasonings, to Italian seasonings. I have done this for years.
