"Learned librarians love large lunatic lizards."
I discovered this book while visiting my sister's coffee house in Chewelah, Washington. I bought a copy for my grandchildren, but thought the reader's of ThriftyFun might be interested in it as well. The book was written by a local author, Melanie Rose Johnson, and illustrated by her mother, Toni McLarren Johnson.
An Amazing Alphabetic Anthology explores each letter of the alphabet with long words and beautiful illustrations. Somehow, Melanie was able to come up with complete sentences using only words starting with each letter of the alphabet. Each page includes a short glossary of the more difficult words so your child can find out what each word means. The book will challenge and delight young readers. They may end up knowing a few words that even you don't know.
Melanie wrote this book while she was recovering from a long illness. All the illustrations were performed by her mother. Initially, they created 500 books using color copies and hand binding. These copies sold fast. Now the book is available through a print-on-demand publisher so we can all enjoy it. Melanie was home schooled and continues writing. She has written a young adult fiction novel (not yet published) and is currently working on a novel.
Priced at $29.95 (U.S. shipping included) from Flowery Trail CoffeeHouse, it is well worth the money and you will be helping out a budding author and her artist mother.
