Freezing Fresh Dill?

July 12, 2011

Fresh DillCan you freeze dill? My dill is ready for pickles, but the cucumbers aren't. Will it still have the same taste as with fresh dill for pickles?

You can freeze dill and the flavor will still be awesome. Just bring a pot of water to a boil, rinse the sprigs and then parboil for only a couple of seconds. Immediately remove from pot, rinse in cold water, pat dry very well, place in freezer bag(s), push out as much air as possible before sealing and freeze.

Dill freezes very well. Just finely chop the dill (not the stems), place in a ziploc freezer bag, and freeze. I always have a bag in the freezer because I use a lot of dill in cooking.

It will keep for months and still be like fresh dill.
