Removing Paint and Scratches on Black Refrigerator?

We recently bought a new home and the refrigerator that came with it is black. It has many white scratches and some white paint spots on the exterior. How do I remove the spots? Paint thinner was suggested, but I am wondering if the black paint will be okay. Please help!
