Ever wonder if there could be a good use for all that pet hair you clean from your house? It's got to be good for something, right? It is! There is an organization called "Matter of Trust" based in San Francisco that sometimes accepts cat/dog hair and forms it into an absorbent, natural fiber that is perfect for helping to clean up the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, among other things.
Go to their website www.matteroftrust.org for further information and let's put those shedded hairs to good use! It will make our cleaning efforts at home, cleaning efforts for the world!

During early spring when the wild birds are building their nests i leave the hair groomed from my German Shepherd in a bowl on patio table they use this to help line their nests wonderful to watch them gather beak-full of hair and fly to their new nests of the year they have made in garage returning every year.
It's a wonderful idea, though when I checked your link the organization stated that as of May their warehouses were full of pet hair and there currently isn't a need for it. I'm still going to bookmark the site and check back every now and then and see if that status changes and if they'll accept fur donations again.
