Bake your own dinner rolls! No matter how cheaply they can be purchased it will still be many, many times the cost of baking your own. This is true not just for dinner rolls but almost any food item. Many things also freeze well so make a big batch and only keep enough out to use within a few days. I grew up in a poor family, so we rarely ate convenience foods, my mom made most things from scratch.
