The Terrier Group is made up of energetic breeds that are characterized by their bold, feisty and inquisitive nature. Dogs in this group were originally bred for hunting and killing rodents and small game and today are kept primarily as companions. Although they range in size, terriers typically have a distinctively bold and engaging personality.
Many have wiry coats that may require special grooming (stripping) in order to maintain their classic appearance. Terriers can be a bit scrappy and less tolerant of other animals (including dogs), but also make very lively and personable companions.
