If your family loves fast food but your budget does not, find ways to replicate your favorites at home. Here are some of our family favorites.
Prepare a package of au jus mix (found in the packaged seasonings section of your grocery store) as directed. Add a package of roast beef lunch meat slices to the pan and heat over medium heat until hot. Serve on French rolls (from the bakery outlet) with a slice of Swiss, provolone or mozzarella and a small dish of au jus for dipping.
Prepare burgers as your family enjoys them (we like ground turkey). As they are frying or grilling, mix up this "special" condiment with which to top them:
Top hot burgers with a slice of American cheese. Serve on buns spread with the sauce and topped with shredded lettuce, pickle slices, and onions as desired. Serve either with homemade fried, baked French fries, or heat up a bag of the frozen variety.
The next time you or the kiddos crave drive-thru fare, think about how you could duplicate your favorites at home. Not only will it be more affordable, but they are usually healthier, too!
