I have had him one week, but he is 8 months old. He is a purebred Shih tzu and I have him crate trained already after several sleepless nights. He prefers the kitchen floor to outside. He has gone outside in the back 80% of the time and used the kitchen floor 20% of the time. He will not walk on grass. I need to house train him. Help!

I have had Shih Tzu's forever. They are wonderful with families and children and other pets. So friendly it's scary. a bundle of hugs and cuddles. However, they are also stubborn. If they don't want to do something, it's almost impossible to make them.
Years ago, my vet told me to buy tiny dog cookies and break them into 4 smaller pieces. Every time he "goes" outside, he gets a treat. Take him out very often at first so he gets the message.
You might also try to take him for a walk when you know it's time for a potty break. (make sure you take a baggie with you just in case. : ) As for walking on the grass, that's a toughy. someone else will have to help you with that one.
I sure hope this helps you out. Enjoy your baby.
