I am overwhelmed with trying to downsize and get organized and need help. I am in my 70s and have been in this 2 story colonial house for almost 50 years. How do I find a professional organizer that is reasonably priced?

All you can do is call around and get estimates. I am 71 and 2-3 times a year I go through my belongings and get rid of some stuff. Some of it gets thrown away and some is dontated. When you do it yourself, you have to be really strict with yourself. From what I have heard when you hire a professional organizer they urge you to make a lot of hard decisions about getting rid of things. If you ust want to reorganize your belongings, do you have kids or grandkids that could help you. But if you want to get rid of clutter to make your home neater you will have to get rid of things.
Consider having a work party! Invite two of your closest friends or family members to come for a two hour stint of decluttering one small closet, cupboard, steamer trunk, or similar small area. Give the two helpers their pick of the things you would like to clear out, or things you would leave them in a will. It's a Win-Win as you will enjoy a short spurt of clearing-up with your loved ones, and you will have the pleasure of giving them the things you want them to have now.
Have some light refreshments, and repeat as needed until the clutter is gone.
If you live too far from loved ones to do that, though, you should be very careful about how you choose an organiser. Check with the Better Business Bureau, the local senior group in your community, and your church, and local police for any scam artists working your area. The local senior group will probably be a good resource for finding a good organiser as many of the members will likely have had to find one too, and will be able to steer you to the right person.
