When you are out just about anywhere, keep your eye out for signs posted items for sale by grocery stores, restaurants, retail stores. As many places remodel, they put the old fixtures up for sale.
We were out for a birthday lunch and spotted a for sale sign for highback all wood benches that a restaurant used for their booths until they replaced them during a remodel. They were $30.00 each and in good condition, didn't wobble, no loose boards or splintered boards with varnished finish. They would make good benches for extra seating for company on our back patio so we bought two of them. Also, they make a big space for the dog to lay on or jump on and look out the screen (the bottom part of screened in patio is wood about two feet high).
Thrift shops at times have benches. We found a covered piano bench in good condition for $7.00 and our dog likes to sleep on it. We always keep our eye out for something up for sale, but not advertised. It keeps our cost down and ideas flow on how to make it all work and comfortable for all of us including the dog.

A dept. store was going out of business a few years ago and I purchased one of their sturdy backless benches with mirrored sides for customers to try on shoes. We keep it at the foot of the bed, plop the bed spread on it, and sit on it when it's vacant. Pretty good for $20.00!
Naturally, I disinfected it first!
