Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp. ginger
  • 2 tsp. soda

Directions

Cream sugar and shortening. Add molasses. Then add egg, flour and spices. Mix thoroughly. Make round balls size of hickory nut then roll in sugar. Put on ungreased cookie sheet 1 1/2 inches apart. Bake at 375 degrees F for 12 minutes.

Molasses Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 1 cup molasses*
  • 4 cups all purpose flour

  • 4 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tsp. salt

Directions:

Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs and molasses*. Sift flour and spices together; add sugar mixture. Mix well. Roll dough in to balls the size of walnuts; then roll dough balls in more granulated sugar. Put on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees F for 10-12 minutes. Makes: 3 dozen.

*When measuring the molasses, first spray your measuring cup and spoon with cooking spray, so it will pour out easier.

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 1/4 tsp. ginger
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:

Beat butter, shortening, sugar and eggs. Add molasses and stir well. Add rest of ingredients, stirring well. Roll into balls, then roll in sugar. Flatten and bake for 11 minutes at 350 degrees F.
