I acquired "Clostridium difficile" while using antibiotics. I am now on another antibiotic for this disease, but it isn't working. This disease causes extreme bloody diarrhea. Does anyone have any suggestions or home remedies to help me thru this? There is another antibiotic I can take, but it cost $1000 for a 10 day session. Thanks for any help.

Hi! I am sorry that you are suffering. Please work closely with your doctor as this is a serious health situation. I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice, only a few suggestions that might help you. At one time, doctor's recommended what is called the BRAT diet for children with diarrhea.
Some info from Wikipedia: The BRAT diet is a treatment historically prescribed for patients with gastrointestinal distress such as diarrhea, dyspepsia, and/or gastroenteritis. The BRAT diet consists of foods that are relatively bland and low in fiber. Low-fiber foods were recommended as it was thought that foods high in fiber cause gas and possibly worsen gastrointestinal upset.
An acronym, BRAT is a mnemonic for bananas, rice, apple sauce and toast, the staples of the diet. Extensions to the BRAT diet include BRATT (with tea) and BRATTY (with tea and yogurt).
In addition to dietary restrictions, medical professionals recommended that all patients, regardless of age, intake plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration, along with oral re-hydration solutions to replace the depleted electrolytes to avoid salt imbalance. Severe, untreated salt imbalance can result in "extreme weakness, confusion, coma, or death."
There are different schools of thought on this diet, but it has been helpful to my family for short-term use when diarrhea was a problem. I would suggest that you add a very good pro-biotic to your diet. Yogurt or probiotic capsules should help.
You must rehydrate the fluids that you lose during the diarrhea. Drip Drop, available from Amazon, is excellent. Other oral re-hydration remedies from the pharmacy are also good.
Finally, I would suggest taking Allimax garlic capsules in the blister pack, and using certified Manuka honey. These can also be purchased from Amazon or iHerb. Do not substitute other brands. I would take two garlic capsules a day to start, and a tablespoon of the certified 15 Manuka honey.
Unfortunately, these remedies can be expensive. But, I have personal knowledge that they are effective. Please! Do your research and stay in constant contact with your doctor. Read the reviews and comments from other people on Amazon and iHerb. I do not have any financial or other interests in any of the products that I have recommended to you. Good luck and good health to you. Sally
A relative had contacted C-Diff from antibiotics. Fortunately, the doctor recognized the symptoms immediately and he only had a mild case of it, but what his wife did was wash everything he touched with bleach water all the time and his potassium level was drained, so he had to eat bananas frequently. It took quite awhile to clear up. Electrolytes are affected too and keep hydrated and make sure your doctor checks your level on both.
There's no home cure remedy for C-Diff, but you can help curtail the length of time you have it by definitely using bleach in water on toilets, sink knobs, light switches anything you touch in general and the flooring. Wouldn't hurt to wash your dishes with a little bleach added either, besides your laundry and bedding.
Constrain yourself to using less furniture so wiping off everything isn't a huge task on yourself; especially if you live alone and have to do all this yourself. Your energy level is low enough. You might try wearing cotton gloves around the house and changing them daily or immediately upon soiling. Put your clothing in a plastic bag; not in the hamper or laundry basket until ready to wash.
