This recipe is a favorite because it's so quick, easy and economical and yet looks and tastes so special. It is loved by children and adults alike.
Prepare a greased and floured baking tray. Rub the butter into the flour, add sugar then the well beaten egg and mix together. Take small knobs of the mixture and dip each knob into castor sugar and place on baking tray. Put half a cherry on each and bake in a hot oven until golden brown.
Don't make buttons too big as they spread in the cooking

I think most of us in U.S. do not know what glace' cherries are unless they could possibly be maraschinos? And what is castor sugar?
This sounds so 'melt in your mouth' yummy and I know castor sugar is super fine granulated sugar but the same as Laniegirl I too would like to know if glace' cherries are the same as maraschino cherries.
I don't know what your maraschino cherries are but glace' cherries are the same as the ones that you would put into say a fruit cake, they are sweet and one the same lines as mixed fruit peel that also goes into cakes.
