Streusel-Filled Coffee Cake

• 1 1/2 cups flour
• 3/4 cup sugar
• 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
• 3/4 tsp. salt
• 1/4 cup shortening
• 3/4 cup milk
• 1 egg

Filling mix:

• 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
• 2 tsp. cinnamon
• 1/2 cup finely chopped nuts
• 1 Tbsp. butter (melted)

Directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease round 9 inch by 2 inch deep pan or square 8x8 inch pan. Blend all cake ingredients (leaving out filling ingredients). Beat vigorously for one-half minute. Spread half of batter in pan. Sprinkle half of filling mix on batter. Top with rest of batter and put rest of filling on top. Bake 25-30 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
