Use a plastic Ziploc bag and rubber band to cover cans when opened. You can reuse the Ziploc baggie by rinsing the outside and putting it back in the drawer for use.

I have always heard that when you open a can of anything you should empty the contends and never leave any in the can for any length of time. They say it is for food safety.
