I want to put my Chihuahuas (I have 3 of them) on homemade food. I am looking for a recipe for homemade dog food for a healthier, leaner dog. I had them at a doggie daycare and they are getting too heavy for my liking. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just put my dog on a grain free dry dog food because they "poop" less and I think grain free puts on less weight. Think I read that online or heard it somewhere. You may do some research on this. Also, one reason for the grain free diet is my dachshund had back surgery in October and still doesn't have complete control of his stools. Less poop and easier mess to clean up if he happens to not make it outside on time.

Can you please let me know of some grain free dog food that I can buy here in Australia? Thanks, Vicki59
i also am now trying to make my own with chicken and rice (white), (always rinse rice in warm water till clear, this is a must for doggies),add with veges, not too much broccoli as it is only good for them in very very small amount occasionally, no garlic or onion of course and use only sweet potatoe, as white spuds are from the deadly nightshade family and are not good in big doses, can cause depression etc in us and animals... the magic ingredient is a Probiotic, this will fix everything long term, and she has a normal human one 25 billion strain 1/2 tablet sprinkled on her food in the morning, when i forgot it one day, well her body let me know, and a good multi vitamin and omegas ( if they need it for joints etc,), but a multi should be enough for now... i cook mine all together put in processor and blend, let cool first, then once blended add your vitamins etc.. i place mine in containers approx. i place aside some enough for two days meals, warm it up in the micro slightly and freeze the rest that will last for a week or more...she has Pancreatitis severe and IBD, and has been this way for years, we have tried all vet products and i found it caused her loose bowels and gurgly tummy, so it obviously was not working well...
