I'm looking for a recipe for hot pickles. I've been told they are dill pickles with chili peppers.

You are correct in your thinking. My Mom always added a dried chili pepper to her quart of dills along with the garlic, onion & dill. This gave them a bit of heat without being overpowering. I use a fresh chili from the garden and get the same result. If you want them fairly hot you will need to add 2-3 depending on the heat of the pepper.
