Saute bacon and onions until tender. Combine all ingredients into a casserole dish and bake at 350 degrees F for 1-1/2 hours or cook in a crockpot on low for 4-5 hours.

How big of a can of sauerkraut?
I see that no one has replied to your comment yet but my best guess, based off the size of the other ingredients, is that you would use a can that's the same size as the tomatoes, about 15 ounces. I haven't made it yet but I'm going to have this as a side dish whenever I can find pork roast on sale. If you've tried it, let us know if your family enjoyed it or what you've changed in the recipe!

This is a simple, fast recipe that uses a food that not all of my children liked when they were growing up, but some were really fond of. Making this dish, the one that even liked sauerkraut the least was the one that liked this dish the most.
Drain sauerkraut well. Mix the condensed cream of potato soup with the sour cream and chives, add this to the sauerkraut. Mix together and spoon into greased casserole dish, top with slices of Swiss cheese. Put in 350 degree F oven until cheese is bubbly. This takes about 20 minutes, but check it sooner, as it depends on each oven, and placement in the oven. I always doubled or tripled and did two pans, so time was a bit different.

Brown hamburger and onion together, add all other ingredients and bake in a covered casserole for 1 hour at 350 degrees F. Serves 4-6.
I also add in a small container of sliced mushrooms, drained, because I like them! But this is optional.
