Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • Advertisement

  • 1 egg, unbeaten
  • 2/3 cup milk

Directions:

Sift flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cream of tartar into bowl. Add shortening to the flour mixture. Blend together until of cornmeal-like consistency. Pour milk into flour mixture slowly. Add the egg. Stir to a stiff dough. Knead five times. Roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with 1 1/2 inch cutter. Bake on an aluminum cookie sheet for 10-15 minutes at 450 degrees F. After stirring to a stiff dough, these may be dropped by spoonfuls on greased cookie sheet. They bake light and crusty.
