My daughter and I just went through this the other day. All her clothes were in a jumble all over the floor. We took them all out and put them on the bed. Then, we sorted through them. The long sleeved shirts, jeans, and dresses went into her closet on hangers. The short sleeved shirts and "little" clothes: i.e.
I don't have as many clothes as my daughter, so my summery type clothes are in the bottom drawer of my dresser and in the drawer right next to it are my autumn knit tops and just on top of that drawer are my winter sweaters. My long sleeved shirts, pants, and dresses are all hung in my closet.

At the end of each season, I make sure all the clothes of that season and washed, you don't have to iron any that usually iron, but they must be clean. I fold everything neatly and put in a large tote (or size needed) and store in my laundry room. Or anywhere you have room for it.
Good idea I still keep a lot of my summer in bags I still need room for the rest !
