How do I give a parakeet a bath?

You put a bowl of water in their cage that they can't tip over and they bathe themselves.
I have had no luck getting my Perry to use a bath. I have a small spray bottle and get it full of warm water and give him a couple of squirts with the nozzle on spray setting. He loves it. You can aim above his head and it will fall on him or you can softly spray him one or two sprays.
