My son is 8 years old and he mostly suffers with a cough and congestion. When he coughs phlegm also comes out. Please tell me a treatment for a phlegmy cough and congestion. Thanks.

If he has had a cough for more than a week, he really needs to see his doctor. He may have seasonal allergies that need certain medication, or could be something worse. If it has only been a day or two, try over the counter Robitussin DM for children. It has a medication that will help thin the mucous, making it easier to cough out, and a mild cough suppressant, that helps control a nagging cough, but be sure to ask the pharmacist if it is appropriate for your child's age. Most pharmacists will be glad to answer questions, even about over the counter medications.
Make sure he drinks plenty of fluids, especially water.
Please take him to the doctor. We are not doctors. Your child could have a serious or contagious condition.
I don't mean to be rude, but why would you ask on a web site what to do about a medical condition? Especially for your child ! Take him to the doctor!
It's good the phlegm is loosening/breaking up. Bronchitis cough lasts a long time before it's cleared. Take your child to the doctor as all has suggested so you get an accurate diagnosis/treatment; it' a wise move.
