Applesauce Cake

Ingredients:

• 1 cup sugar
• 1/2 cup shortening or lard

• 1 egg
• 1 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce
• 2 cups flour
• 2 tsp. baking soda
• 1 tsp. cinnamon
• 1 cup raisins
• 1 cup nuts

Directions:

Cream sugar and shortening; add well beaten egg and other ingredients. Bake in paper-lined 9x9 inch pan at 350 degrees F for about 60 minutes. Serve plain, frosted, or with whipped cream. I'm told this is a 50 year old recipe.
