I'm organizing our very first family reunion and looking for a location. We don't want to camp out (TX in July), but we want that woodsy-feel and want to organize/coordinate our own activities, food, etc. We need a place that will accommodate approximately 50 people for a long weekend in the Houston/East TX/Hill Country area. Any suggestions?

Check internet under camping, or national parks which would allow camping and cooking etc?
I suggest to have it at a church with tables outside or at a park with trees, good luck.
A park would be nice if there were lots of trees to keep you from melting in the Texas heat. Most parks (such as Herman in Houston) have a Pavilion and it's nice. Good luck and have fun!
In Houston County, in the tiny town of Grapeland, there is a private park/campground called Salmon Lake Park. They have a number of cabins for rent, along with picnic pavilions and other outdoor facilities. And the best part is the small swimming lake in the center of the park, complete with a tiny beach and floating diving platforms.
