Mix water, milk and yeast well and let stand about 5 minutes. Mix flour, salt and sugar. Make a well in flour mixture and add shortening and liquid yeast mixture. Mix with hands until dough feels spongy, not sticky. Let rise in greased and covered bowl until double in bulk. Work it again, cutting into 2 loaves. Put in greased 9x5 inch loaf pans; let rise to top of pans. Bake at 325 degrees F for 40-50 minutes.
