A teatime treat with strawberry filling.
Topping
Preheat oven to 355 degrees F (180 degrees C)
For the base. Cream butter and sugar till well blended. Add beaten egg and add flour gradually and making a soft dough. Roll on floured surface and spread on a greased tray. Spread the strawberry jam evenly and leave aside.
Mix the ingredients for the topping. Cream butter and castor sugar adding the beaten eggs and vanilla essence,cake flour and ground almonds. Mix well and spread over the jam base.
Place almonds on top and bake for 35-45 minutes or till golden in colour. Cut in slices and serve with hot tea.
