Dropped a small earring or contact lens, etc? Just take a nylon stocking and cover nozzle of vacuum and attach with a rubber band. Turn on your vacuum, and run it over floor. If you're lucky, your lost item will be stuck to the nylon.

Good idea, presuming you've got the hose type vacuum. Ours works either way. If you don't have a hose-type vacuum, here's hoping you have one like ours, which is a bagless.
If you lose it on the floor in your house, shine a flashlight horizontally across the floor at floor level. Most times this will illuminate the item with a long shadow and there you have it! This works great in my kitchen when I drop a Cheerio or a vitamin on the floor.
