Un-Fried Fried Apple Pies

I love fried apple pies. My health and my waist line do not, however. I tried something today and wanted to share with others who love the pies but not the end results.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can crescent roll dough
  • applesauce seasoned with cinnamon to your specific taste

Directions:

I took 1/2 the roll and flattened it as much as possible without tearing. I filled with the applesauce mixture, put the second 1/2 of the roll on top and sealed it by pressing the edges with fork tongs and baked according to directions.

After I took them out of the oven I sprinkled them with Splenda.

They are really very good! I bet this would work with canned biscuits as well.

My mother used to make fried apple pies. She cooked her own apples down similar to apple sauce, used canned biscuits, rolled them out, put the apples on half and folded the other half overtop the apples. Sealed them and crimped them with a fork. Need I say delish! I'm sure they could be baked in the oven just as well.
