Hi, I am going to that stage where you get a lot of acne. I hate looking in the mirror because I keep seeing zits all over my face. Facials make it even worse.

OK for starters, any boyfriend who leaves you because of pimples, zits, acne, or any other superficial blemish is not worth having......people should want to be with you for who you........not your skin condition.......facials and actually any skin care regimen you start will make acne seem worse before it gets better......your body needs to expel the bad to get back to good......many people have severe acne and need a doctors help but many just need to start and stick to a daily cleansing plan.....be sure to cleanse your face once or twice every day and more times a day if your skin gets excessively oily or dirty.......you can purchase inexpensive facial cleansing towlettes from Wal-Mart that are very convenient......there is no over night cure that I know of, just make a commitment to care for your skin and hopefully you will get good results........you can also use inexpensive cotton balls and witch hazel (a mild astringent) also available at Wal-Mart.......Good luck........and don't date that guy again after you skin clears up he's not worth it........
First of all, if your boyfriend broke up with you because of your zits, then he's not worth having for a boyfriend anyway! Do what the models do, take 'Pepsodent' toothpaste and put on your zits when you go to bed. The 'Pepsodent' dries them out almost overnight. I used this when I was a teenager, and almost never had zits break out. As soon as I felt one coming on, I got out the 'Pepsodent'.
I recommend using Oxy 10 face wash 1-2 times every day. The active ingredient is 10% Benzoyl Peroxide which is good for fighting acne. It is used in a lot of acne creams in varying amounts but creams can be overly drying and the Oxy 10 is not. It exposes your skin to the Benzoly Peroxide long enough to get the acne fighting benefit but without drying your skin too much.
I agree with other posters, that if your boyfriend broke up with you because of your zits, then he isn't worth having.
If the over-the-counter products don't help you, make an appointment with a dermatologist. Most teens do have problems with their skin, and believe me, I have been there.
I wish you the very best, and don't mourn the breakup with your boyfriend as a loss, but as "good riddance".You deserve better!
Get your mom to take you to a dermatologist if the regular over-the-counter stuff doesn't work. There are some good prescription meds. available. I wish I had them when I was younger.
Yep - that boyfriend is a bust. Forget about a boy who leaves you for your acne. As if he never gets a zit!!! You mentioned you use a lot of cover up - maybe use this as little as possible. Pimples need to breathe and heal. Don't suffocate them with oily make up that may be making the matter worse. Remember, you are not alone. Many people suffer and deal with acne. I know when I get a cold sore, it seems as if everyone is staring at it.
try this, it WORKS!!! At 43 I still have oily skin,
blessing is no wrinkles...for breakouts I buy
CHEAP brand of maalox and shake bottle put on
face let it dry up then pop into shower or wash face I still do this and on my shoulders and chest area...
IT WORKS, it is kinder on your skin than all those alcohol things that can ruin your skin, and cheaper...
Years of living and I picked up a few things,
as for the jerk well my mom always said
"men are like buses next one rolls around in 15 minutes"
Emily,
Go to a dermatologist if drugstore remedies won't help. They have medications that will clear you up and boost your confidence WAY up.
If a dermatologist is not an option here are some good tips I use and can say they work. Don't ever use any product of any kind that contains mineral oil. It can and will make your skin worse! Try the zinc tablets you can buy over the counter and use salycilic acid acne remedies. Stay away from smoking and booze, not just because you're young, but because both habits have been proven to aggravate skin problems. Tea bag compresses can reduce swelling in the painful, "underground" type zits.
Finally, use a light, oil-free dry powder for makeup. It gives the illusion of clear skin much better than liquid makeup. Play up your beautiful eyes with tasteful eye makeup and nicely groomed brows. Try "Clean and Clear" oil botting tissues throughout the day to keep your face dry and fresh. Stay out of the sun or use an oil free sunscreen. There are lots of great ones now. Good luck, and I know a quality guy will come into your life soon and love you for who you are!
This information is from an Ann Landers newspaper column:
Put raw egg yolk on the face and let it dry for 10 minutes, then wash off. Do
it every day for one month and the acne will go away. Do it again two times
in every month for three months, and then again if the acne recurs.
This treatment has a very good success rate, and works because of the high
Vitamin A content in the egg yolk.
I had to share this with you. When I was in college, I dated a guy I thought I was head over heels in love with. And everybody thought that he was the nicest guy and that we made such a sweet couple. But soon things got weird. He was real distant and started avoiding me. Well, I was smart enough to recognize trouble. So I confronted him. He finally confessed that he had a problem with my weight (I was overweight, about a size 16) and didn't want to date me anymore because of it. I was shocked, and heartbroken. No one had ever been so mean to me. I had never been judged by my weight before (I was really lucky!) and I couldn't understand how such a supposedly "nice" guy could do it! We broke up. And I was very sad for awhile. And angry! I didn't hesitate to anyone the truth of why we broke up. Whick meant there were a lot of angry girls at him around campus! LOL!
But soon after this, I realized that one of my best friends was the perfect man for me. And now we have been married for eleven years. And he treats me like a Queen!
So never settle and never underestimate your own worth! It sounds like you are too young to be thinking of marriage, but dating is the same principals. Never be afraid to be alone instead of being with some guy that doesn't appreciate you.
A few tips for your acne:
+Wash your face twice a day, without fail.
+Never sleep with your make-up on.
+Use a soap made for oily skin or for acne. Regular soap is way too harsh and can make it worse.
+A good (and cheap!) astringent/toner is witchhazel. Use it straight from the bottle with a cotton ball. It doesn't dry out your face like alcohol, but cleans it well and removes the oil. Find it by the other toners in the store.
Many people may disagree, but I always did this and still do. And Dermatologists do it. Just make sure you do it right. Pop your zits.
If you are concerned about scarring, there is a certain type of acne that is genetic that is the type that causes the scarring. You probably don't have it (it is normally boys who do), but if you do have it, you need to see a doctor. Only perscription medicine can help this condition and prevent the scarring. If you are unsure if you have this, did at least one of your parents have it? If not them, any siblings and aunts or uncles? Talk to your parents about it. People who have had it and did not receive treatment (which was not available until about the last 20 years or so), usually have scars on their cheeks from the acne. Though they may have them on their back instead. Normal acne will not scar unless you constantly pick on the zits or small scabs.
So get rid of those zits! Clean up that face! At least the ones you easily can. Including black-heads. A pimple is trapped dirt in a skin pore. That isn't just going to dissapper. It needs to go somewhere. And if you don't get rid of it, it will build up and up until it makes a little zit volcano (which is very painful and can cause scarring from erupting because of the damage it does to the skin).
Before popping a zit: Always have clean skin first AND clean hands. You don't want an infection. If you cause a small wound or some bleeding, put some antibiotic creme on it to help it heal. Though before that, and after you are done, it is a good idea to wipe down your face lightly with witchhazel again. It will clean the dirt off that may have been smeared around (and help cause new zits!) and witchhazel is good for preventing bruising and inflammation.
To pop a zit: put your index fingers from each hand on either side of the pimple and push towards each of them, NOT DOWNWARD. Downward doesn't do much but cause pain. If it doesn't come out with a reasonable squeeze, leave it alone. It isn't ready. You don't want to hurt the surrounding skin. That can cause scarring. There is also a small blackhead removal device you can find in the cosmetics section with the other beauty tools that can be helpful. Dermatologists use one like it in their offices. There are instructions on the package. Just make sure you always keep it clean, washing it with hot water and soap after each use.
REMEMBER: What is trapped in a pore that makes up a zit is dirt and bacteria! So you don't want to spread that bacteria anywhere else. So be very clean and careful! It will help prevent new zits and infection.
After you have removed a zit, the pore is often left open and enlarged. A scab may form over it as it heals back to its normal state. DO NOT PICK ON THE SCAB. This is what truly causes scarring on girls. Leave it alone and let it heal. If you cannot leave the scab alone, do not squeeze your zips in the first place. A pimple is less ugly than a weeping scab that someone repeadedly picks on.
Good luck!
Heather
My daughter was having a terrible time with acne. I called her doctor and he had me pick up a sample of benzoyle peroxide. This worked. He gave me a prescription for it and her skin has been clear since she's been using it...maybe an occasional blemish, but her skin was red from it before. You might need to try this route. If you have acne I'm sure you've probably tried all the other remedies. Sometimes, you just need something stronger that you have to call your doctor to get. If you're not an adult ask your parents to call your pediatrician. She uses Benzoyle Peroxide 10%...it's just a crema she rubs on morning and night. This might work for you. I hade pimples when I was growing up and there's no use going through all that when a simple medication could help!
Emily,
I've suffered with adult acne FOREVER! The good outcome is less wrinkles. Wash with Cetaphil face/body. (Walmart-cheapest) Try not to pick. I do. It scars. Bad news! The bleeding opens for infections and larger pores. Stay out of the sun! Use any benzoyl peroxide(10%) As often as you think of it. Especially before bed. Never use liquid make-up. Use powder instead, lightly. I hope for you that acne is just a stage. For me, not so fortunate. Dermetologists can help. Beware of pills. Topical is best. Mine is genetic. Good luck. As far as the guy, well, he has showed you what matters to him. Exterior. Forget him. There are plenty of real men for the taking, honestly. Understanding the mirror view all too well :)
I am an Avon Lady in Australia I had pimples and then started using Avon's Tea Tree Oil Blemish Stick Cost $4.99 Aust so about $2.50 in US. One tiny bottle last about 4 months and after about 3 days say goodbye to the zits. I didn't discover this until I was 32 so I know what you are going through. Also I used to put my hands on my face when I was leaning or relaxing the oil and dirt in hot hands gets left on your face leaving face oily don't touch your face alot and kept oily hair from brushing your face all day hope this helps. PS that guy is not worth another thought.
messing with your skin too much can make it worse. but I would recomend that you try mixing chammomile and rosemary water and using it as you would a toner, since it has antibacterial properties and it will help prevent breakouts and reduce redness. The problem is those can be hard to find, but you can make rose water and extracts (or any other herb) at home. Take a large pot, insert a clean brick or rock, fill with rose petals or herbs or whatever around the brick. Cover with water and place a small glass dish on top of the brick. On top of the pot put a stainless bowl and fill with ice. Simmer about three hours depending how many petals or herbs you have, replacing the ice as needed. The bowl with the ice will condense the steam and drip down into the glass bowl. The water in the glass bowl is your rose water or whatever herb, on top will be a layer of oil. This is the essential oil. You can separate these and use the water as a toner, and the oil for perfume, or in lotions or whatever. I hope this helps, good luck.
Reader's Digest has a great book with natural treatments using vitamins. As always check with your doctor before using these, but here's a few that work for me.
Vitamin A (hard to find but i got mine at Eckerd Drug), Grapeseed Extract, Vitamin B-6 (in am ), Vitamin C, Evening Promrose Oil (vitamin form), Biotin, Vitamin E
I took each of these seperately everyday and as well as clearing up my skin, it also made me feel healthier also. Don't forget to wash pillow cases weekly, face 2x daily minimum. If you are a smoker like i am, try cutting back as i found the more i smoked the more i broke out ( what goes in must come out and your skin is your largest organ). Hope this helps!!!!!
Every day I get pimples and acne on my face.
found ou about vitamin a on the other acne site. got two bottles of high conc. for www.thevitamincure.com and been on it for three months now. The first weeks was tough but the oil is gone and i looking good now.
hey whats that acne soultuion that u can buy at a local atore like wal mart its just like pro active but its not i seen it on tv they say it works let me know if u got it im me at eric_sports @ hot-shot.com (remove spaces)
Hey, Well i am 19 and i JUST started getting pimples at age 18. I never in my life had a pimple or anything until i was 18 years old. So i know how it feels. I have tries a few things that seem to really work. One is putting a dab of honey on your pimple. Not on little ones but the big noticeable ones and then cover it with a bandaid. Do that for about 3 nights in a row before you go to sleep, and it'll be gone.
Also there is this soap called "Purpose soap". i will admit it will make your face kind of dried out a little bit, or at least it did for me but if you use that consistantly at least twice a day for a few weeks, your pimples will dry out and the little annoying pimples that just make your face looks blotchy will dry up and go away too. If you ever use a topical medication, and you don't see improvement within 2-3 weeks, im not saying 100 percent better, but at least 50 percent better improvement in 2-3 weeks then not only will that topical medication not work but chances are NONE of them will work. You'll have to talk to the dermetologist about switching to pills.
Also, i hear everybody is saying to use a powder cover-up.....DON'T. Anything you put on your pores, even powder is going to clog them up. Unfortunately your just going to have to suffer through having some pimples. Also, if you use a medication and within the 1st few days or 1st week or 2 it looks like it's getting WORSE.....sometime that's a good sign..it means the medication is bringing ALL the dirty and oil up and outta ur pores before it dries them up and demolishes them. So if it seems like its getting worse, wait another week or 2 b4 u discontinue ur medication. Also, acne medication is jsut like any other medication,
if you are told to use it for 1 month in a certain dosage, you NEED to follow the rules. If you don't your body will naturally build up a tolerance to acne fighting ingrediants and it will then seem to take forever for you to find a strong enough type of acne medication. Well my aunt is a dermetologist and her ideas (which are also the same as i just displayed to you...) is what she told me and now, just barely a year later my skin is clear as it was with NO zits, no pimples ect.
witchhazel is a good true product. also, try to change your diet. Eating healthy foods equals healthy skin. If it's too hard to do then, add three things to your diet.
1 water It's true water is natures beautifier.
2 salads with dark greens,spinach,mesculine.
3 vegatables and fruits, blueberry, mango, oranges, kiwi, carrots, soy nuts, put them on a pretty plate make it look yummy and remember you are taking care of yourself because you are worth it. You will start to feel better when you look in the mirror because you know you are proactive in your life. you go girl. With every good thing you add try to get rid of one bad habit. Before you know it, it will all be good.
toothpaste is good at drying pimples " I like to use toothpaste that smells like cinnimon or vanilla so it matches my perfume
Maalox is the same as expensive department store masks only cheaper. All masks dry off the surface oil, none penetrate and "pull out" impurities as they claim. Salycilic acid is great for acne. You can find this all over the market OR crush up an aspirin and make a paste as that's what it is comprised of. (It's the ingredient that upset some people's stomachs). Never use alcohol or over wash skin! But we all know that, right? It activates your oil glands to overcompensate the loss. Applying a non clogging oil actually works wonders! It tricks your skin into not producing oil! The only one I've tried us Dr, Haushka, but I know there's others less expensive. The last tip I have is for an everday cleanser mix a gentle cleanser like cetephyl with baking soda to make a paste. Wash with it ever day. Cetephyle doesn't dry the skin or clog pores (some soaps clog pores with it's binding agents). Baking soda is the best exfoliater for every day. Never use harsh exfoliators!! Ever notice when you wash and wash, scrub and scrubs your skin seems worse!?! It's because you're irritating your skin causing it to over produce oils! -Good luck!
ive had an acne problem for a little while and i just started using AcneFree. but ive been having a couple zits on my face. should i just leave them alone and hope they go away or what?...
About toothpaste does anyone know it it really works? If u know *!*!*PLEASE*!*!* and thank you!!!

PROACTIV is the best...forget the rest
People I am 41 and still breakout...UNTIL, I started using PROACTIV. You only need a little and will notice results fast. It keeps your skin glowing and acne free.
I think that RETIN-A MICRO is really great you just have to know how to use it. It will make your skin peel but stay out of the sun and use a toner and a really great moisturizer I know it sounds like a lot of trouble but it is worth the headache you will see result in a couple of days just stick to it even if the peeling seems unbearable also you will want to stop for like two days and then start the exfoliating again oh and use your fingertips to rub off the excess skin it is less harsh than a sponge. GOOD LUCK
I've tried proactive and it only works for awhile. I've also tried the cheap stuff which doesn't work either. I eat good too so I'm kinda at a loss for what to do now. Toothpaste doesn't work either. My doctor gave me a prescription stuff but honestly it doesn't work, so I've literally tried everything. What now?
if you have any tips on what to do email at ggbarrette AT aol.com
Thanks
Hi! something i just figured out at 31 is this:
1. ................do not dry your face and your hair with the same towel!....................................
{I found i was drying my just-conditioned wet hair THEN drying my face and smearing conditioner all over my face unknowingly!} No wonder i've had zits all my life!
2. I would highly recommend Tea Tree Oil (buy one at the health food store that is specifically diluted for your face.) do not use too much, apply it with a cotton ball and use it like a toner. do not hold the cotton ball on one focused zit or you will burn a large area and it will scab over and be huge and worse that your original blemish.
3. Also: water is the best medicine. Drink one ounce per pound for 60% of your body weight. it's seems a lot but it will flush all the toxins out of your system so zits are less likely to form.
4. Wash your face with minimal water and minimal soap twice a day. Use Neutrogena bar soap for Acne Prone skin.
5. Look at www.wholehealth.com and see how you can take Vitamin A as a 5 day regiment that will boost your skin's health. This is helpful if you know you are going to be stressed/PMSing/traveling/sure to have zits.
May your skin be blessed with clarity, naturalness and a gorgeous smile!
This really works, it's like crazy! So you need to get three aspirin tablets and mush them up till there powdery. Then put that into a bowl then add a 1 tablespoon of honey then mix it together and it should make like a liquidy paste. Before you go to bed, just dab a little bit on the zit, and then it will start to decrease after the first use! Use the paste at night every day, for a few days and your face should be basically zit free! :D Hope it works!
