How do you remove that yucky "freezer" smell and taste from plastic ice cube trays?

Vinegar. Put vinegar in them, and let them stay cold for a day or two in the refrigerator.

If possible try putting them on the top shelf of the dishwasher. Use the light cycle without the heated dry cycle.

for everyone saying "throw them away - they're so cheap!" take a look around you. It's that "throw away" mentality that is contributing to the massive amount of plastic pollution.
