When cleaning a very bad spill (from boiled over sugar to spilled baked beans) off of a flat top stove do not invest in the very expensive cleaners made for these stoves, they do not work. Spray on a little oven cleaner, turn on the burner for a few seconds, let cool and then wipe clean.

However how to clean around outside of burners? When I turned on burner or a few seconds, it doesn't get hot/warm around the outside. Have scrubbed out my soul trying to clean. Don't want to use a razor blade and scratch my pretty new flattop :)
Update:
Used the softscrub on the outside rim of burned on stuff on my flattop, as soon as I poured it straight around the burner, it foamed up and started turning brown. I did use a Dobie scrubbie and also the flattop flat cleaning pads. All came off, minimal elbow grease. I am a happy girl today!
I had a spill over of milk onto my kenmore ceramic top and was on here tryin to find out how to get it off and came across oven cleaner... it worked amazingly :) I am new to havin my own place with my daughters and husband and so glad to see I'm not the only one who has had issues.
Please beware that toxic fumes be in the air drone oven cleaner. Very nasty harsh chemicals

Those expensive stove top cleaners work VERY WELL!! Although you think expensive it only takes a few drops to clean. I just got a new Whirlpool and love it. Have had it a month now and the small sample bottle is still very full.
