Melt shortening; add meat and brown lightly. Add onions, garlic; cook until tender. Add tomato sauce, water and seasonings. Simmer 30-40 minutes. Top hot spaghetti with sauce and cheese.

I dont ever use shortening to brown our ground beef. It already has fat in it. I do put the onions and such in as I brown the meat though.
